Images of Maa Laxmi started spreading around 3 century BC and reference of the same is available in sculptures found in Kaushambi in Northern India. Gold coins issued during the Gupta dynasty also carry her images. Since she was the popular deity among Gods and Demons alike, She was known by many names and titles.
