The Role of Emotion in Abstract Art

For a long time, artists have been working on the concept of realism. Art critics used to check and criticise the central ideas behind the paintings. The artists have created masterpieces through fine lines, forms, shapes and figures. However, they also found it irritating when they are expected to create exact replicas of objects and landscapes without any creativity.

Artists have been changing their patterns, and three revolutions played a crucial part in the evolution of art, especially abstract art. For instance, anyone can create gorgeous scenery, including snow-capped mountains, meadows and valleys full of wildflowers, a river flowing by, and the sun rising and setting, but to add one’s creativity is different. Painting the sky pink and orange rather than plain blue was tricky for artists.

Artists can demonstrate one’s creativity better when they believe their emotions. For instance, a sad song will be heartfelt only when the singer has demonstrated and felt the pain and loss that one can relate to in the lyrics, music and voice of the singer. Similarly, a writer would write better away from the boundaries of what you can and cannot add. Likewise, abstract art is for free-spirited people like travellers who love to go with the flow.

Some artists choose to draw abstract art because it is a smooth process, and one can add the mush and vibrance of colours with asymmetrical strokes or simply throw the paint on canvas and let it flow and catch its own direction. One of the most famous Indian abstract artists portrayed his ideas and beliefs through his art during his life from 1922 to 2016. He was one of the modern Indian artists whose paintings fetched staggering amounts in international auctions.

Abstract Art

One of the other renowned abstract artists, MF Husain, Maqbool Fida Husain, was a founder of the Bombay Progressive Artists Group. Born in Maharashtra, he is considered the godfather of contemporary Indian Art. Although he was a controversial artist who hurt many religious sentiments about Hinduism by painting certain portraits, many lawsuits were filed against him for hurting cultural ethics.

Abstract art is one of the best ways to express emotions of love, extreme care, doom, sadness, romance, and more intense thoughts. Through art, one can express what is indescribable in words. An artist always finds creative ways to explore and speak, as a writer can write, a public speaker can orate, a singer can sing, and a painter can paint. Similarly, there are multiple ways in which an artist can spread a message worldwide.

Art has nowadays been started appreciated on many social media platforms. Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter have made it easier for people to connect and show their love and passion for art. People have started building groups and communities where they meet fellow artists, show what they make, and help people learn online. Online learning has been promoting art like never before. Now anybody can learn painting, sketching, and drawing without any restrictions of age bar or any other, conveniently from the comfort of your home and showcase whatever you make and flaunt it on your special media accounts.

We, the human race, are nothing without emotions, empathy and camaraderie; there is nothing soulful without emotions. Art is an artist's way of expressing his feelings and work. With emotion, any art piece and artisans will feel bland and mundane, so emotion will be a prime source of motivation and relief to an artist's pain, melancholy and life. Thus abstract art and emotion follow the same path in order to create a masterpiece.
