This exquisite paper print titled Samyoga Sringara is a beautiful example of late 17th-century Rajasthani art from Bundi, preserved in the Bharat Kala Bhavan, Banaras. The scene depicts a romantic and intimate moment between Krishna, shown in his iconic blue form, and Radha, seated together in a richly adorned courtyard. Krishna reaches out toward Radha in a gesture of affection, while attendants look on, adding to the narrative depth of the composition. The architecture in the background, with its ornate domes, chhatris, and intricately patterned walls, reflects the grandeur of Bundi palace architecture. The vibrant reds, golds, and blues are hallmarks of Bundi miniature painting, conveying both regal elegance and tender emotion.
The artwork is accompanied by a deeply expressive poem by Vidyapati, perfectly complementing the romantic theme:
"As the mirror to my hand
the flowers to my hair,
kohl to my eyes,
tambul to my mouth,
musk to my breast,
necklace to my throat,
ecstasy to my flesh,
heart to my home - as wing to bird,
water to fish,
life to the living - so you to me.
But tell me,
Madhava, beloved,
who are you?
Who are you really?
Vidyapati says, they are one another."
