Hard-wired

Before installing the new mounting bracket, make sure you have attached the sconce screws to it. When connected correctly, the threads should be facing you. Place the mounting plate over the junction box, lining the holes and wall anchors. Screw the plate onto the junction box with the mounting screws. Wrap the ground wire from the wall around the green ground screw on the mounting plate. Leave a few extra inches free at the end of the wire. Give the green screw a tighten with the screwdriver. Then, attach the wire to the ground wire from the new sconce and cap it off with a wire nut. Connect the white wire from the sconce and the white wire from the junction box with a wire nut. Repeat this process with the black wires. Carefully tuck all cables back in the junction box, making sure all wire caps are secure.

Attach the sconce to the wall by lining up the holes to the screws on the mounting plate. Lay the sconce over the plate where the back of the sconce lies flat with the mounting plate, and the screws stick out the front. Place the nuts on the screws and secure the sconce to the wall. You’re all set. Add the shade and screw in the light bulb if you have a glass shade.

Plug-in Wall Lamp

Unbox your new sconce and locate your ideal placement on the blank wall. A general rule of thumb is that sconces are best hung at eye level when you’ve decided on a spot; pencil in the correct placement by marking the holes where any screws or anchors will go. You are using a tiny drill bit; drill starter holes on your marked spots. Push the drywall anchors in the wall holes quickly; tap them with your hammer or the back of the screwdriver. Anchors will give the wall light a more solid fit within the drywall. Line the mounting plate up with the wall anchors. Use mounting screws to attach the plate to the wall. Screw the mounting screws through the holes in the plate and into the wall anchors.

Line up the holes in the sconce to the screws on the mounting plate. Lay the sconce over the plate where the back of the sconce lies flat with the wall, and the screws stick out the front. Place the nuts on the screws and secure the sconce to the wall. Voila, your lamp is installed.

Battery-Powered Wall Lamp

To install a battery-powered wall lamp, you will need some essential tools and materials, such as a screwdriver, a drill, a level, a tape measure, batteries, and the wall lamp itself. You can also use some adhesive or glue to attach the light socket adapter to the puck light, the battery-operated light source that will replace the regular light bulb in the wall lamp.

Choose a location for your wall lamp and mark the spot where you want to mount it. Ensure it is near your activity area and away from any obstacles or hazards. You can also use a stud finder to locate the studs in the wall and drill into them for extra support. Install the bracket or the base of the wall lamp on the wall using screws or anchors. Use a level to make sure it is straight and aligned. Attach the light socket adapter to the back of the puck light using caulk or glue. Let it dry completely. Screw the light socket adapter with the puck light into the wall lamp, just like a regular light bulb. If needed, hang the wall lamp on the bracket or base and secure it with screws or nuts. Install the batteries inside the puck light and test the wall lamp. You can use a switch, a remote, or a timer to control the wall lamp.

Now that we are crystal clear on installing different kinds of wall lamps let us move over to know more about types of bulbs.

LED Bulbs

LED bulbs are lighting devices that use light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as the light source. LED bulbs are more energy-efficient, durable, and eco-friendly than traditional incandescent or fluorescent bulbs. LED bulbs can also produce different colors and brightness levels and are controlled by remote devices or innovative systems. They last longer than other types of bulbs. LED bulbs can last up to 25,000 hours or more, compared to 1,000 hours for incandescent bulbs or 10,000 hours for fluorescent bulbs. They consume less electricity than other types of bulbs. LED bulbs can use up to 80% less energy than incandescent bulbs or 50% less energy than fluorescent bulbs. They are safer and more environmentally friendly than other types of bulbs. LED bulbs do not contain mercury or other harmful substances and do not emit ultraviolet or infrared radiation. LED bulbs also generate less heat and reduce the risk of fire or burns.

Incandescent Bulbs

An incandescent light bulb, incandescent lamp, or light globe is an electric light with a wire filament that is heated until it glows. The filament is enclosed in a glass bulb filled with a vacuum or inert gas to protect the filament from oxidation. Terminals or wires embedded in the glass supply current to the filament. A bulb socket provides mechanical support and electrical connections.

Incandescent bulbs are manufactured in various sizes, light output, and voltage ratings, from 1.5 to 300 volts. They require no external regulating equipment, have low manufacturing costs, and work equally well on alternating or direct currents. As a result, the incandescent bulb became widely used in household and commercial lighting, for portable lighting such as table lamps, car headlamps, and flashlights, and for decorative and advertising lighting. Incandescent bulbs typically have short lifetimes compared with other types of lighting: around 1,000 hours for home light bulbs versus 10,000 hours for compact fluorescents and 20,000–30,000 hours for lighting LEDs.

Halogen Bulbs

A halogen lamp (also called tungsten halogen, quartz-halogen, and quartz iodine lamp) is an incandescent lamp consisting of a tungsten filament sealed in a compact transparent envelope that is filled with a mixture of inert gas and a small amount of a halogen, such as iodine or bromine. The combination of the halogen gas and the tungsten filament produces a halogen-cycle chemical reaction, which redeposits evaporated tungsten on the filament, increasing its life and maintaining the clarity of the envelope. This allows the filament to operate at a higher temperature than a standard incandescent lamp of similar power and working life; this also produces light with higher luminous efficacy and color temperature. The small size of halogen lamps permits their use in compact optical systems for projectors and illumination.
